I personally think because the down force pressure from the fan is 46 grams, its giving enough thrust to lift a 46 gram object, putting a 12 gram object that floats really high isnt going to affect anything, you need something thats designed to float, but heavier than 46 grams, to conclude your test worked, beautiful idea and a very decent attempt at testing it scientifically though :)

It did somewhat increase...you can see it going to 46 and then back to 45 really fast while when the ball isn't there you get a stable 45.So still a very small increase.

I thought the weight was going to increase, but I was using the same logic as you described in your drone in the rubbermaid test. The interesting side note that I would have added in your video would have been the fact that the scale has to register at least the ball's weight, or a better way of saying it is the force the air is being pushed with has to at least be equal to the weight of the ball. So, there wouldn't be a situation where your scale would register less than the ball while the ball was being levitated, right?

I think that there will be a difference. But only because of the spinning blades, when the fan is turned on the force the blades are exerting on the air will also act downwards on the blower, but there will be no difference in weight between the blower on and the blower on with the ball. Agree?

So what if the ball's weight was closer to the pressure in which the hairdryer blows? Would it only cause the ball to struggle to stay up? Or would it add enough resistance to in fact change the air flow, and change the weight?

I don't know about the rocket in space thing. The hair dryer has thrust, it is pushing off of the air. I don't see how the wind generated hitting a foil ball and not weighing more is the equivalent of a rocket shooting gas into a vacuum. Just logically doesn't make sense. If there's nothing to hit, it seems like it should generate no force at all because there's no way to build up pressure in that environment. If there's something solid it would push off of it, and if there was something floaty, it would probably get a little bit of thrust for the rocket and move the object a little bit as well. I think we are going to need to see more experiments.

It's not going to affect the scale because the scale is unable to tell whether the air coming from the hairdryer is being released into the atmosphere or if it's supporting the ball

The scale should way the same due that Newton’s third law states that there a equal and opposite force so the air pushing the ball up should push the scale down I think? But the air could have more force than the ball??? This is for 2:33 Edit oh well that was fun while it lasted 👍🤣😇

Could you redo the experience within a tube as it was like that on the indoor skydiving. I mean, it was predictable that the ball on the air dryer woudln't increase the mass of the whole system, simply because you can't create pressure passed the nozle, it immediatly dissipate when forced out of the stream. But inside a tube, it would create pressure, so you should see an increase of mass if you weighted the indoor skydiving fan, probably few kilograms, but certainly not the person's mass.

The force on the scale will increase because the force that pushes the air that pushes up the ball also pushes the hair dryer (that's what i assume that is) down, but the hair dryer pushes out more air than would be needed to lift the ball, so there would be extra force on the scale, if that makes sense.

Before my teens I assumed an aircraft-carrier jet needed that metal plate that pops up behind it to push against so it could take-off... then my late-Grandad informed me (after our cinema trip to watch the movie "The Final Countdown" in the early 80's) they were to prevent the engine exhaust blast from damaging/harming people/equipment behind. Newton, like my Grandad, was a force (=ma) to be reckoned with.

Are you really sure it doesn't matter what is above the airdryer? I think you're wrong, i believe that if you have a solid wall above it the weight would increase because the air pushes against it just like a rocket would to the ground which creates an uplift much higher than it would if it was launched from mid air.

The scale doesn't increase weight when ball is floating because the air doesn't do 180 degree turn to the scale. If somehow that happened then the extra weight may appear. Extending this thought, maybe if you put a weighing scale horizontally beside the blower, it will show minor increase in reading when the ball is levitating
