Dude you gotta watch this!! One guy even risked his life trusting the science behind this same principle.. http://youtu.be/eR6tzU5w3EM This is from a popular Tamil language scientific channel from India!! He makes videos explaining the science behind everything practically.. It is so useful for the students here.. You may not understand the language but see his concept and commitment.. His videos are very popular among Tamil people from India..

I love your videos and I have a request can u explain why light doesn’t have mass.. I think photon should have mass because since the Newton’s law and Einstein’s formula both shows that light have mass_> Newton’s law:- to move something massive you need to have enough amount of mass and velocity. Einstein’s formula_> E=mc^2 which means energy is mass times speed of light^2 and then the confusion comes some says for the photon it E=pc^2 which means Energy is momentum times speed of light^2 but momentum also comes from mass and velocity, and if light doesn’t have mass how can it have energy, if it because of the wave and frequency what proves that there is no mass. I really want to know the answer please help me if you can.

Would the same thing happen if you put a feather as the lighter object? The affect of gravity on the feather is reduced due to the air density acting on the feather slowing the feathers fall. So I don't think the feather would fall far enough for the string to hook the pencil and I suspect the keys or vase in this case would just hit the ground first.

+Jeff O I see. But how about too short, but still long enough to wrap around the pencil at least one time.
Vor MonatJeff O
Definitely. Too long a string, and his wife's glass vase crashes to the ground.

And you need a friend that doesn't understand physics. 😁

In this setup the keys will fall first because the lenght of the cord from the matchbox to the pen is too short. I guess I have to try it out now damned, I have to time for this!
Vor MonatDon Joe
What I was thinking. What will happen if you change the angle of the matchbox from 90° to 45°? I guess it will lengthen the drop distance by more than 2x, i'd say 3x.

Vor MonatDark Star
Is there any way to play with light and make a life size object invisible?
Vor MonatDark Star
+Jeff O yes it does seem a lot of stuff to be kept aside so no doubt there's still debate going on about this topic even after so many decades.... And personally talking, I do believe that the US government and military has something more than what it shows to the world.
Vor MonatJeff O
+Dark Star Yes, but it was all those things - light, space, and time. Some people think it never even happened, although there's a lot of evidence that "something" happened. Whether or not a ship was rendered optically invisible is up for debate. Tesla's technology at the time was supposedly used for the experiment. And the fact that some sailors on the ship traveled through time just adds to the allure. It's a pretty big topic to get into, but Google obviously has no shortage of information about it. There was even a film made about it, and there's probably many documentaries about it on YouTube.
Vor MonatDark Star
+Jeff O ok so I've been through the Philadelphia experiment thing and I can say what I asked was "to play with light" not to play with the space and time... Dude trust me if that Philadelphia experiment was real then it was crazy scary
Vor MonatDark Star
+Jeff O really? I've gotta check it out then

Vor MonatFirebolt73
Yo! Can you please explain the physics behind formation of shadows?
Vor MonatJeff O
+Firebolt73 It's not black. It's only a darker shade of color than the part that isn't in shadow. The darker something is, the more it can look black, but it's only emanating less light from the colors that it's giving off. For example, if you turn down the brightness on your monitor to a very low level, it's dark, but it's not black. It would only be black when you completely turn off the monitor.
Vor MonatFirebolt73
+Jeff O yeah but why is it only black colored
Vor MonatJeff O
The formation of shadows occur when an object blocks a light source from reaching it's destination, such as a wall.
Vor MonatDaniel Houck
1. No, of course I don't take the bet. Even if I was sure I was right (and if so I should wonder why you're proposing the bet), *you don't offer anything in exchange*. I wouldn't take a bet where I pay $20 if there's no sunrise tomorrow, even counting "sunrise" including "behind clouds" and stuff, if you didn't offer anything in return if there was. 2. When you first proposed the bet you were holding the matchbox well below the pencil, not out horizontally. I expect it wouldn't work as well if you actually released it from there.

This reminded me of something I've observed and thought of since I was a kid. Get a Philips screwdriver, a medium to large ring that will fit over the tip of the screwdriver but not the handle. Some string that won't break if spun and some type of weight like a toy car. Cut the string to about a foot. Tie one end of the string to the car and the other to the ring. Slip the ring over the tip of the screwdriver so it rests on the handle. Grab the tip of the screwdriver and spin the string and the toy car. The handle should keep the ring from flying off. Notice how little effort it takes to spin the car. Try to make tight small movements but keep it spinning. Be careful not to hit yourself. Now if the car was a magnet and you spun this inside a large coil of wire, would a current be induced? If you video recorded your hand movements (which I suspect requires more effort than it actually seems) you could build a robot cog or gear that could simulate the movement of your hand and control it with a small motor. Now I know from physics that you can never generate more power than you use, but it sure seems like in this scenario it is a lot of gain for a little effort. I have wanted to ask a science teacher this since I was a kid but always forgot. Thank you for reminding me. If you could explain to me why it seems like this is taking very little effort to spin this so fast and why we could not use this in some way to make electricity? Thank you. Sorry for being so long winded.
Vor MonatThe Action Lab
It takes so little effort because you are adding the energy in small amounts at a time, so you just don't notice it. You are correct that you will not get more energy out than you put in. You just have a system with little friction so once you get it moving you don't have to add a lot to keep it moving. If you added a coil of wire and the car were a magnet you would see the car very quickly come to a stop. Once you added the coil you'd have to put some real work in to move it and keep it moving.
Vor MonatToon Huysmans
Can you share a link to the paper? Thanks!
